Centennial Train

Painted in 1998, this mural celebrates a centennial marker for Stroud.

The first train of The Arkansas and Oklahoma Railroad (later part of the Frisco line) pulled into the new station on August 17, 1898.

To be closer to the new rail line, town founder James Stroud sold land and developer lots, prompting residents of the original 1892 settlement to physically move their houses and businesses down one mile east, to the town’s current location.

The town’s early newspaper, The Stroud Star, began printing its weekly editions on March 11, 1898.

Significant local structures, such as the historic James W. Stroud House, were also constructed during this foundational relocation year.
